ASK SLAM!

Faithful readers: Due to the current email virus that is going around, only emails with a subject line involving something hockey-related will be opened and answered. My inbox has been flooded with those spam/ virus emails and it's a laborious task to weed out the real emails. If you have not received a response within 48 hours, your email was either not received or not opened.
Chris: What do you think of obtaining Kovalchuk & Kariya for McCabe & Datsyuk in a points only pool? Also, can you tell me the date of the NHL trade deadline? Thanks D
If you can take the hit on D, go for it. Trade deadline is March 9th. Many fantasy leagues have trade deadlines that differ from that of the NHL.
Hey Chris: As always, I am in need of your expertise. Have you heard anything about Daze? Also, what do you think of my Guerin for Stuart and Antropov? Or, Ryder for Stuart?
Thanks, Gregg
I'd advise you to look elsewhere in terms of Daze. He's not worthy of your time because of his injuries. I'd also rather much rather have Guerin than any combo of those guys - assuming you're in a PIM's league.
Trade question.
My T.Selanne & B.Richards for his J.Arnott & R.Bonk, what's your take? Selanne has been a low producer as of late, and I can potentially play Arnott more often than Richards.
IR question.
What have you heard about Mogilny's return? Is he worth grabbing now and sitting him? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Don
I'd rather have Selanne and Richards by far. Arnott and Bonk are mediocre fantasy guys, in my opinion.
Mogilny will be re-evaluated after the All Star game, from what I've read.
Thanks for the advice, and I enjoy your article. Wish it could be daily. Would it be a smart trade to trade my S. Niedermayer for J. Roenick? He is in need of D. due to injuries. I would like Roenick for depth, but don't want to hurt myself on D. Currently I have Pronger, Zubov, Niedermayer, Morris, T.Kaberle.
Well, it's just Saturday and Sunday I don't have anything on Slam... maybe next year. I would not make that deal. As we've learned this past weekend with both Gonchar and Jovo going down with injuries; depth on D is a precious commodity. Don't trade it away in case one of your guys goes down.
Hi Chris: once again great column! I've been proposed Selanne for Satan. Who should make the more points for the rest of the season? Thanks for your advice!
Alex in Mtl
If it's a points-only league, Satan probably wins. If +/- is taken into account, I'd probably wait out Selanne.
Chris: Are Comrie and Zetterberg too much to give up to get Lecavalier? Also, with Gonchar out, is Berard a safe bet if i'm looking to pick up an offensive
dman....his +/- stinks but so did Gonchar's....
thx -J
I still think Zetterberg will get hot in the second half, so if you can do Comrie and a lower guy for Lecavalier (Who is heating up), go for it. If he'll only go for Zetterberg, you can probably still go for that.
Hey Chris: My defense was recently hit hard by injury (I had both Jovo and Gonchar) and I was wondering who I should pick up. Of the guys available, Sopel, Boyle, Poti, Klee and Timonen caught my eye. How would you rank
those guys? Also, I just traded Demitra, Iginla and Shanahan and received Thornton, Tanguay and Foote. What do you think? I already have Jagr and Hejduk at RW, so I felt that I could move Iggy, as much as it pained me.
Keep up the great work, Bryan
Sopel should get an increased workload with Jovo down, so I'd start with him. Boyle has been producing lately and either he or Timonen would be my second choice. Boyle has the +/- advantage.
The deal is fine for you. Thornton and Tanguay have the potential to be the two best players in the deal.
With Heatley back, how does it affect Savard value when he returns? Also, would you know Savard's ETA?
Savard may be back by the end of the week. It should only help Savard's value, actually. Last year it was Slava Kozlov, Heatley and Savard on a great line. Maybe they'll reunite them.
I have Kariya, been offered Jagr straight up (yahoo).... they are both at point per game pace but something telling me Jagr will come out on top... what do you think?
We have 4rw and 4lw slots and I figure I am deep at LW with guys like Forsberg, Havlat, Satan, Zetterberg, and Samsonov... and not so deep at rw: O'Neill, Kovalev, Bondra, Selanne, and Zubrus... maybe increasing Jagr's value slightly to me.
Our skater stats are g, a, pim, +/-, faceoffs, and game winners.
Thanks, Luke
I think given your positional situation, it should be safe to make the deal. There's always a worry with any star that goes to the Rangers and a possible tank job, but overall I think the move will pay off for you. Don't forget that Jagr will always be on the first power play unit, whereas Kariya will have games where he's on the second unit because of all the talent in Colorado.
