ASK SLAM!
By CHRIS NICHOLS -- SLAM! Sports
Hi Chris! Enjoying your insight as always! In a roto league with most stats. Would you trade Gagne for Lecavalier? Looking forward to your next columns!
I'd rather have Lecavalier, despite his bad first half. He's been coming on strong lately and should be able to produce more points than Gagne.
Chris: Is it time to pick up Heatley off of waivers, or will it take him a long time to get up to speed?
Mike
Definitely grab him up. I can't say for sure that he'll produce immediately, but he's absolutely worth the risk. He's coming off a big injury, but he's apparently been looking great in practice and he's obviously a high-end player.
Hi Chris: As I've said in the past, your insight into the realm of Fantasy Hockey is second to none. I have two questions I was wondering if you could comment on:
1.) Between Patrice Bergeron and Dainius Zubrus, who would be a better pickup for me... and what are your thoughts on each of their prospects this year?
2.) For the Philly tandem, do you think it's safe to run with just Esche by replacing Hackett with someone like Vokoun? Or should I continue to keep Hackett no matter what?
Thanks again for your insight...
I'd go with Bergeron, although Zubrus is obviously the more experienced of the two. Bergeron has far surpassed my expectations already.
If you can grab Vokoun and keep Esche, do it. Hackett's vertigo situation is a big question mark right now. Esche has been playing well anyway and is clearly the #1 guy and Vokoun is a solid goalie that can get you some decent stats.
Hi Chris, love your columns and Ask SLAM! section, read it daily. My D just got hit hard with the injury bug (Gonchar, Jovo). I have Heatley in my only IR spot and intend on keeping him. My remaining D men are Zhitnik, Hulse and Berard. (Can play up to 4 D daily)Including Heatley I am pretty strong at RW with Iginla, Kovalev, Ryder and J.Blake. I really don't want to drop anyone to gain an average d-man or give up too much to add another defenseman, should I try and tough it out?
THANKS!! Todd
There are times to drop guys and cut your losses and times to wait out injuries. With Heatley, Jovo and Gonchar... I'd wait for all three without a doubt. Work the trade angles hard and find a guy to fill in for now. If you don't fall too far back in the race, you'll be primed to catch the leaders when your guys get healthy.
Hey Chris: Just looking for your thoughts on this trade...I traded St Louis for Selanne & Schneider. I had to drop Klee to replace him with Schneider. What do you think of this deal?
Thanks, Greg
Selanne has not produced like I thought he would (Yet), but Schneider has been fantastic. Even if Selanne does nothing from here on it, Schneider likely makes that deal worthwhile. St. Louis has been a consistent producer, but hopefully your offense can sustain his loss.
Hey Chris: I was wondering what you thought of me trading away Nolan to get Bondra. I know that you should never trade based on rumor but I would be shocked if Bondra didn't get moved from Washington... and rumor suggests OTT, which would be nice...but even if he goes to another contender.. I figure this could be a good move... what do you think in comparison to Nolan (if Bondra stays in WASH, if he goes to OTT, of he goes to another team)
Thanks in advance, Roger Amos Jr
Assuming your league counts PIM's, Nolan should still have more value than Bondra --regardless of where Bondra gets dealt.
I've been offered (his) Jagr for (my) Redden and Jason Blake in a standard yahoo league. My other D-men are Lidstrom, Ohlund and Pitkanen (w/ Ozolinsh on IR). I'd have to pick up another D - the following guys are the best of what's available: Klee, Kuba, Boyle, Hamrlik, Markov, Malakhov, Liles, Havelid, and Rachunek (slim-pickings, I know). Is this a trade worth pursuing?
Thanks for your advice and great article.
I'd take that deal and I would drop Pitkanen and add Boyle and Liles. Keep an eye on Klee too.
How's it going? Great article, I must say. I have a couple brief questions..... I have Legwand.....Brad Richards is available -- should I pick him up and drop Legwand? For RW I have Selanne, Hunter, and Steve Thomas......Heatley is available -- who should I drop to get him? Thanks for your time.
Nate in Detroit
I'd grab Richards over Legwand; try to deal Selanne instead of dropping any of those three guys.
