Fantasy Recap: Apr. 14
By CHRIS NICHOLS -- SLAM! Sports
Montreal 5 Boston 1 (Boston leads series 3-2)
Boston blew its first chance to eliminate the Habs... Jose Theodore had an exceptionally strong game and the Canadiens really needed it... Richard Zednik found the twine for the first time in this series, although he's been peppering Andrew Raycroft with lots of shots since Game One... Saku Koivu's three-point effort gives him six in the series... Alex Kovalev scored, despite playing with a wrist that may or may not be hurt badly... Joe Thornton has zero - as in zip - points in five games as he fights through his rib injury... Glen Murray's goal showed his sweet hands on a nice tip; it was his third point thus far... Sergei Samsonov was scoreless Thursday but has five points in this series... Nick Boynton had an assist and 8 SOG in Game Five; he had 8 SOG total in the four games before last night... Michael Nylander was held without a point for the first time against Montreal.
Detroit 4 Nashville 1 (Detroit leads series 3-2)
Brett Hull tied Wayne Gretzky as the most prolific clutch goal scorer in NHL playoff history, notching his 24th GWG in this game... Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg each had a two-point night Thursday after each being held to one point in the first four games... Steve Yzerman collected his first point of the series... Nick Lidstrom only has two points so far, while Matt Schneider has three... Curtis Joseph was in net for this win, although this critic thinks Manny Legace earned the shot to play Game Five... Marek Zidlicky has still not played since being knocked out of this series, although he may be available Saturday... Steve Sullivan has points in two straight games... David Legwand's goal in Game Three is his only point so far... Kimmo Timonen has looked lost without his partner on the power play and has no points in this series.
Calgary 2 Vancouver 1 (Calgary leads series 3-2)
Craig Conroy scored his first goal of the series in this game and after this two-point effort now has three points total... Jarome Iginla certainly caught a lucky break on his goal, but he now has 3G, 2A in this series... Take away the blowout in Game One of this series and Miikka Kiprusoff has only allowed four goals in the last four games; something that can't be sitting well with the Canucks... Henrik Sedin scored his second goal of the series in this contest... Despite having six shots Thursday and five points in the series coming into this game, Markus Naslund has now been shut out for two straight games... The drought continues for Geoff Sanderson, who has failed to register a point so far... Brent Sopel has also been shut out... Ed Jovanovski has three points in the series so far, but none in the past two games.
San Jose 3 St. Louis 1 (San Jose wins series 4-1)
Congrats to the Sharks, who become the first team to move on to round two... Brad Stuart got his first goal and second point of the series Thursday... Vincent Damphousse drew an assist, giving him four in five games... Patrick Marleau closed out the series with an assist, giving him 3G, 1A... Jonathan Cheechoo had 1G, 2A... Character player Mike Ricci pitched in two points... Pavol Demitra finished the series with only one point... Chris Pronger had but one point in five games... Doug Weight had three points... Scott Mellanby got a late start to the series, but only had one point in four games. If you're the owner of the Blues, do you keep paying these high salaries to continually get bounced early in the playoffs?
