Tuesday, August 8, 2000Galen Hall to coach Orlando's XFL teamORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Galen Hall, the football coach at the University of Florida for six years in the 1980s, will coach the XFL's Orlando franchise, which begins play in February.Hall most recently coached the Rhein Fire to two NFL Europe titles in the past three years. At Florida, he had a record of 41-18-1 from 1984-89. Hall also coached in the World League and Arena League. In recent hirings by the XFL, former Dallas Cowboys star Drew Pearson will be general manager of the New York/New Jersey team; former LSU and Vanderbilt coach Gerry DiNardo will coach the team in Birmingham, Ala.; and Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus will coach Chicago. The new league is the brainchild of Vince McMahon, head of the World Wrestling Federation. The WWF will operate it with help from a $30 million investment by NBC. Other franchises are in Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn,; and San Jose, Calif.
